HANDMADE, A LITTLE WILD & BUILT TO LAST

Hey, I'm Megan—the maker behind Wild Child Leather Co.

SO... WHY "WILD CHILD"?

Wild Child actually has nothing to do with leather.

It was my childhood nickname. I was a little feral, always up for a good time, and apparently "Wild Child" fit well enough that it stuck.

Fast forward a few years and I've somehow ended up raising three wild heathens of my own. 😂 

When it came time to put a name on this little business I was building, Wild Child just made sense. It was already part of my story—and now it's part of theirs, too.

So Wild Child Leather Co. it became.

Wild Child didn't start with a big business plan, a fancy shop, or a pile of expensive equipment. It started at my kitchen table while I was on maternity leave with my daughter.

I've always loved horses, the western way of life, I grew up riding horses & barrel racing, and making things with my hands. I started watching other leather makers on YouTube (I like to jokingly say I attended Youtube University) , learning everything I could, and eventually used part of our tax refund to buy my first tools and leather.

From there, I pretty much just kept figuring it out.

WHERE WILD CHILD STARTED

What began as a creative outlet at my kitchen table during nap times slowly turned into something much bigger than I ever expected.

I taught myself the craft one project at a time—cutting leather, stamping, tooling, dyeing, finishing, stitching, and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Then people started asking me to make things for them.

One order became another. Then came custom tack, belts, gifts, awards, buckle displays, rifle slings, home goods and all kinds of things I probably never imagined making when I bought that first piece of leather.

Eventually, Wild Child Leather Co. became a real business.

And I'm still building it.

MADE THE WAY I THINK IT SHOULD BE

I'm picky about leather.

I use quality hides and materials because I want the things leaving my shop to still look good and be safe after they've actually been used. Leather shouldn't be something you're afraid to scratch. It should get better with age, pick up a little character and tell a story of its own.

All pieces are still cut, tooled, stamped, dyed, finished and assembled by hand right here in my shop.

It's slower that way.

I'm okay with that.

WHAT MAKES WILD CHILD DIFFERENT

Wild Child isn't a factory and I'm not interested in becoming one.

I love creating pieces that feel personal—whether that's an award someone worked all season to earn, a belt worn every day, a rifle sling headed to deer camp, or something for your home that you won't find sitting on a shelf at a big-box store.

A lot of what I make is custom, which means you aren't choosing from thousands of identical pieces coming off an assembly line. You're getting something that has passed through my hands from start to finish.

Some pieces are simple. Some are covered in tooling. Some are a little western. Some aren't western at all.

But the goal is always the same:

Make exceptional stuff. Use great materials. Don't cut corners. And make something worth keeping.

WHERE WE'RE HEADED

Wild Child has grown a long way from that kitchen table, but I'm nowhere near finished.

My goal is to continue growing this little business while keeping the craftsmanship and personality that got it here in the first place.

More products. More shows. More places. A bigger shop someday. A team. Maybe even a Wild Child trailer rolling into rodeos (Cowboy Christmas during thr NFR 😉), markets and horse shows across the country.

But no matter how big Wild Child grows, I never want to lose the part that matters most:

Someone trusted me to make this.

And I want it to be worth that trust.
